FAQs
The TBPP, Part of Senate Bill 2627, allocates $1.8 billion to provide grants to “Critical Facilities” to install backup power at facilities that support community health, safety, and well-being. A backup power package is a multiday-backup that can power a facility in the event of an outage.
The bill is a response to the events that followed Winter Storm Uri, when many critical companies were left without power for days.
TBPP grants are for “Critical Facilities”, such as hospitals, nursing homes, medical facilities, first responders, water/wastewater treatment plants, storm & homeless shelters, public schools and municipal buildings, and Grocery Stores and evacuation-route fuel stations.
The program specifically excludes commercial energy systems, private schools, and for-profit entities not directly serving public health and safety.
$1.8 billion has been allocated for the TBPP. Funds will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
It’s important to draft the application properly, so Exergy Energy will collect the necessary information from your organization and handle the process for you. Given the importance of backup power to protecting Critical Facilities, we are offering to handle the submission without any obligation – You can withdraw at any time without penalty.
Funds are limited to the construction of new backup power at Critical Facilities. While the program details are still in flux, this is a core tenet of the program and not expected to change.
